Howdy All!
I haven't been able to get much birding in here at the park for a few days, but
the past couple of days have been pretty good. The Laketrail between the
screened shelters have a been a good spot to get woodpeckers. Yesterday, Hairy
and Downy were calling at the same time. It was nice to be able to hear both
and compare. Pileateds, Flickers, Sapsuckers, and Red-bellieds have been very
active in that area, too. The only one missing is the Red-head. You can usually
see them near our bicycle trailhead parking area in the dead pine stands.
I had a great surprise on the lake trail near the east end of the boardwalk. I
scared up an American Woodcock. This is the first one I have seen in that area.
Join us next Saturday, January 30th at 8:15am for a bird tour of the park. We
will take about two hours to bird the best locations in the park. Meet up at
the park headquarters.
