The story of the day is that the lake, after recent heavy rains, has risen to
622 ft. above sea level 5 feet over normal with a crest of somewhere around
624' expected this weekend. Wildlife Drive is now once again closed. The white
geese are present once again in large numbers, but I believe this is probably a
different flock containing higher numbers of Snow and Blue Phase Snows. The
bird of the day was 3 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks at the Big Mineral Picnic
area. We found 76 species on a day when birds were extremely active. We saw
large numbers of meadowlarks and blackbirds including a dozen Brewer's
Blackbirds. We also saw Pine Siskins and American Goldfinches feeding at
several locations.
