Tuesday morning bird census, Hagerman NWR

It was a chilly morning with a stiff Northeast breeze.  Birding was
good.  We started the day with over 80 Cedar Waxwings in the Oak trees
in front of headquarters.
The Goode Area was closed today so we went out on the pads early on.
We encountered many American Golden Plovers in the fields on both
sides of Wildlife Drive. When we arrived at Mineral Marsh we found a
couple of Marsh wrens singing.  Then on down the road in the marsh on
the left side of the road we found the continuing Cinnamon Teals.
Across the road we heard a Black-necked Stilt calling and then got
good looks at the stilt.  Egrets are starting to arrive and we saw
Cattle, Great and Snowy Egrets but we were not able to locate a Little
Blue Heron.  There were lots of Upland Sandpipers in the field near
the Brooks Farm barn near Short Rd..  At Meadow Pond we saw 6 Wood
Ducks.  We saw over 700 American White Pelicans off the end of Plover
Pad. Sitting near the pelicans were Forster's Terns, Bonaparte's Gulls
and a couple of Franklin's Gulls. We saw a good assortment of
Shorebirds, including Least, Baird's and Pectoral Sandpipers.
