Hi Texbirders,
Travis Audubon Society is sponsoring two workshops, one tomorrow and one next
Saturday, focusing on hosting 2 bird species that are very popular with the
general public, and each workshop still has space available for additional
registrants.

Tomorrow afternoon, Saturday Feb 14, Andy and Julia Balinsky will conduct a
3-hour workshop on Purple Martins - what they are, where they go in the winter,
and what you can do to host them on your property if you are so inclined.
Registration info and a longer description of the class can be found here:

Then next Saturday morning, Feb 21, 2015, my good friend and nationally
recognized bluebird expert Pauline Tom, the First Lady of Texas Bluebirds, will
conduct a workshop about how to encourage Eastern Bluebirds to visit or even
nest on your property. Pauline knows as much about this subject as probably
anyone in the country and she is a tireless advocate for bluebird conservation
and husbandry. Her enthusiasm for the subject is infectious, and there is no
known vaccine that will ward it off.

More information on that class here:

As I said, both classes still have room for additional participants, and either
class would make a fine Valentine's Day gift for that special someone you know
who has a soft spot for beautiful birds close at hand. They would also both be
good classes for master naturalists, landowners, property managers, Girl
Scouts, Boy Scouts, or anyone else with an interest in bird husbandry and
conservation.

Both classes will take place not far from from downtown Austin, and the fee for
each is pretty modest ($15 for TAS members, $20 for non-members). At Pauline's
class next Saturday, participants can even get a ready-made, certified
bluebird-appropriate nest box with the additional purchase of a year's
membership in the Texas Bluebird Society, which is also a mere $15.

Bargains like this won't last forever!

Happy Valentine's Day, Great Backyard Birdcount and Good Birding Ya'll,
Byron "Doc" Stone, Austin, Tx
