Jim and Gene are correct...to a point, but if you post it as your work
[that is, without giving credit to the person who photographed it], then
you may have a problem. To the photographer: if you to prevent anyone from
using your work as their own or for profit, then you can copy right the
photos.

It is a crime to sell that picture to others and depending on the terms of
the website and the picture taker, it may violate copyright law to sell or
provide the picture to others.
Many people keep good pictures from the professional birding sites, ebird,
texbirds and other places as they have them off line. I used to have lots
for reference as internet connections and speeds were not what they are
today and Comcast was often down. Have not done that for years as 240mps
speed and places like xeno-canto and cornell make it instant to get
pictures or calls. And if Comcast goes down my phone and tablet do the
same.
But keeping a picture for personal use is not a crime or misdemeanor. Not
even wrong as everybody does it in some form or other. Some people save
texbird messages rather than rely on the search capabilities of the site.
The motion picture studios, record companies, magazines etc have lost the
case for you long ago. They still moan but others use the net and do well.
Just remember that if you look at a picture on your computer it is already
downloaded. Right click and it is saved. Once upon a time I was told I
could sell pictures and pbase even worked on a way to sell high resolution
copies of low-rez pictures normally posted. But if you can examine a high
rez picture to see if you want to buy it, it is already downloaded without
paying. Pbase gave up. I did check another site to see if a warbler picture
could sell and found over 900 pictures of that warbler for sale on that one
site and there are many sites.
The best thing to do is to feel honored that someone wanted to download and
keep your picture as a memory of their great day on the texas coast. And
your picture will help make that a long term memory that will be even
better next December.

covered Quintana and Lafitte's extensively
during migration, I know for a fact that there are several Dennis'
carrying cameras around, and I would be
annoyed thinking others would believe me to be the person of whom you
refer. Most photographers I know
who have your concerns put their names on their photos when they put
them in a public format as you
