No, it is not wrong to save any image from anywhere for personal use.

I'm not a photographer so educate me because maybe I will be some day. Is
it wrong, legally, ethically or morally to save an image from eBird, say,
for personal use?

Hi texbirders,
Today while I was waiting with another couple on the boardwalk for the
Glossy Ibis to show up, another photographer walked up to us and asked
saidwe had seen it.photos
He then proceeded to tell us that someone had posted some excellent
of the bird on Texbirds yesterday and he got them by email. He then
photothat he had downloaded the photo to put in 'his master file' as the
ifwas better then he had managed to get.
I then told him I was the person who took the photos and he didn't ask
from,he could use it or apologize for stealing my photos. I had waited 45times
minutes on the bird to get these photos and he just steals them
My friends knew him vaguely and I have seen him at LaFitte's multiple
this spring. My friends said his name was Dennis, but they did not knowhis
surname.
Well I wonder how many other photographers Dennis has stolen photos
permissionfor 'his master file' as they were better than his.own
Dennis this is theft of intellectual property and unethical. Take your
freaking photos and don't steal from others.asked.
I am happy to post my pics on Texbirds for everyone's enjoyment and
education. I also donate them for non-profits or educational use if
But this is the first time I have known about blatant theft of mypictures
and he did it without remorse.permission

from the List OwnerI think Dennis Shepler quietly made a good point. As a birder who has
covered Quintana and Lafitte's extensively
during migration, I know for a fact that there are several Dennis'
carrying cameras around, and I would be
annoyed thinking others would believe me to be the person of whom you
refer. Most photographers I know
who have your concerns put their names on their photos when they put
them in a public format as you
did, or just don't share them at all.
