Last spring there was an adult male Black-chinned Hummingbird that would come visit the flowers from some Aloe vera plants that are in my small butterfly garden. It would come zooming in from my neighbor's wooded plot of land, sip on the flowers, and then zoom back to the woods. It kept coming back until all the aloe flowers were finally gone and then the bird moved on. I don't remember the span of time that it was here, but somewhere in-between that a female Black-chinned showed up and stayed all the way into the summer. I would see her from time to time coming to the Turk's Cap flowers in the garden. I went out of town this past weekend from (3/13) and I got back home late on Sunday night(3/16/14). The next morning I went out back to let the dogs out and I saw a male Black-chinned again nectaring on the freshly bloomed Aloe flowers and then zooming back to the woods across the street. It's been coming back all week! It's great to see that again and I can't help but feel that it might be the same one from last spring! Who knows?
