I think you can sign up for emails about TX rare birds on NARBA for free if you don't like to do facebook. Susan Billitdeaux does an awesome job of getting the info out there pronto, as she did with the Golden-crowned Sparrow. Years ago I didn't get news of bird sightings because I didn't have a computer. Now I'm on top of things. I don't do facebook but I do facebook TEXBIRDS. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to do that even if you don't " friend" a single person, or do a single post on facebook. Technology is awesome. So far only Mary Gustafsen was willing to post an immediate notice about the Golden-crowned Sparrow down in South Padre Island after she received a phone call reporting it. And only Erik followed up with details on where it was being seen. Yet I just received a phone call indicating that 30 people were down there yesterday looking at the bird all afternoon and not one of them posted an update to let those of us living hours away know it was still there so we could decide whether is was worth the 6+ hour drive down to try for it. He found out about it only via the facebook page. I have not even received a TOSRBA alert about it. WHAT GIVES? Are the rest of us not being invited to the party? Are we no longer being included in up to date chase info anymore? Is no one willing to cross post important findings like this so the rest of us can know what is going on? I have been seeing more and more snippets from people asking for details on a rare bird's location that has only been posted to facebook and not Texbirds, so the first I hear about it is in the RFI post. I'm beginning to think that Texbirds is going by the way side if so many people think that it is no longer necessary to post rare birds to Texbirds anymore. Please, Please remember that not all Texas birders are on facebook! Please post to Texbirds as well, so everyone else can find out about the rare birds. Feel free to cross post Rare Bird Alerts to Texbirds if you see them on Facebook and not on Texbirds! Thank you, Janet Rathjen Houston, TX PS. leaving for the Valley now to try for the sparrow. Hope it's still there since no one has posted a morning update yet.
