Considering Heidi Trudell and I have missed the last two sightings in the county, it was nice to kick up a TRI-COLORED Heron at Post Park (~ 5 miles S. of Marathon) today. We also have run into "late" water fowl at the Marathon Treatment Ponds (private property). But this year, so much is late anyways it seems. Today, had Blue-wing Teal, Redhead, and Gadwall there, with the several Mexican Mallards. Lots of nesting going on everywhere, of course; Western Kingbird, Bell's Vireo, Vermilion Flycatchers. Many hatch-years out and about. On a Western Kingbird nest at Post Park, an attending adult with food-carry flew back to its nest. Occupying the nest were, indeed, nestlings.... plus, a big, begging hatch-year WEKI. It is nice to see successful nesting attempts and additional attempts now underway. Rain is good.
