This morning I checked out the area wet spots in eastern Hidalgo County looking for good county stuff. There were birds aplenty. Sugar House Pond on FM 1425 north of FM 107 - Water has dropped a bit but still only marginal mudflats. Despite this there were still several thousand birds present. Please don't drive up on the dike. It is now possible to walk several hundred yards along the northeast shoreline. There were also good flats on the west side. I refound Tim Brush's juvenile dark Reddish Egret (west of highway) and got my first county Semipalmated Plovers for the year. A flock of Buff-breasted Sandpipers was nice.
