Birding at the South Padre Island boardwalk Saturday morning. Thought I heard
an Empidonax from the dense mangroves (rising peeet call) but couldn't see it:

walked part of boardwalk from convention center end--focusing on cattail and
mangrove areas
21 species
Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 4
Blue-winged Teal 2
Pied-billed Grebe 1 in bay!
Least Bittern 3
Great Blue Heron 3
Tricolored Heron 2
Black-crowned Night-Heron 4
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron 3
White Ibis 3
Roseate Spoonbill 1
Clapper Rail 2
Black-necked Stilt 4
Spotted Sandpiper 1
Willet 3
Laughing Gull 50
Least Tern 5 adult carrying food
Eurasian Collared-Dove 25 mostly at water's edge near substation
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1 skuling in mangroves but got decent look--didn't
call
Red-winged Blackbird 6
Great-tailed Grackle 5
Orchard Oriole 3 at convention center
