Greetings All:
I took another whack at Waterworld ... I mean Clapp Park ... this morning
and highlights included 1 Blue-winged Teal, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 1
Spotted Sandpiper, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 2 Western Wood Pewees, 1 Willow
Flycatcher, 2 Yellow Warblers, 1 MacGillivray's Warbler, and 1 Wilson's
Warbler.
So far as I can tell, MacGillivray's Warbler was the only new species for
the park for 2015, bringing me up to 137 species of bird at Clapp Park for
the year.
I then spent almost two hours at Lake Six, mostly bashing about in the
mesquite uplands in hopes of another vagrant warbler. The best bird at
this site was a LEAST BITTERN taking a perch in cattails across the lake
from the main boat launch. I would not have seen this bird had it not been
in flight. Other highlights were 1 Northern Shoveler, 1 Snowy Egret, 1
Spotted Sandpiper, 4 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 1 Willow Flycatcher, 2 Yellow
Warblers, and 1 Wilson's Warbler.
I finished off with a two hour hike along the river below Lake Six. The
best bird of this part of the day was a stunning adult Little Blue Heron,
hanging out with Snowy Egrets below the first crossing downstream of the
trestle. Other highlights included 2 Snowy Egrets, 1 Cattle Egret, 1
Spotted Sandpiper, 3 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, and 2 Western Wood Pewees.
