The hawk watch on Monday set a number of records that will be hard to beat unless of course today is better. 552 American Kestrels were seen which doubled the best previous day with one exception. If you take the total kestrels on any date for the last 10 years and total the kestrels for that date the number seen yesterday beat the 10 year total for all days. The 641 sharp-shinned hawks was again the most seen on any one day. The 124 mississippi kites would have been extraordinary except that 2009 was even a more better kite year. But the total early October birds are like the totals 2 weeks earlier in all other past years. And if I remember right this is the best year ever for the kites. Hopefully it will also be a good goshawk year but that remains to be seen but they are streaming past Duluth. Again. -- Joseph C. Kennedy on Buffalo Bayou in West Houston Josephkennedy36@xxxxxxxxx
