It was cold and windy on the tower yesterday and still a few birds coming by. The best was a young of the year bald eagle that went right overhead but photography was limited by watering eyes and the bottom of the bifocals http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366737 Pete the nanday parakeet in town and the the peacock flock were more interested in sunning and staying out of the wind http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366744 For several weeks, 2 ospreys have been going around together shouting at each other but they have never stopped being together http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366739 More late season birds have wing problems which is probably why they are late. The last Mississippi kite was in worse shape than this broad-winged hawk http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366733 Turkey vultures were back and forth and started across near the tower several times but never made it like this adult bird http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366731 The drought affected these hooded mergansers which dropped into the town pond and were fishing but the pond was almost dry a bit ago limiting the fishing although the herons etc sure enjoyed the last water. http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/153366728 The hawk watch formally ends tomorrow and unless there is a dramatic change in the wind forecast, this is my last trip of the season but the new season is less than 9 months away. -- Joseph C.
