TexBirders,
We are making preparations for the Smith Point Hawk Watch which will run
from August 1 through November 15 this year. As usual funding is
questionable so we are going to use volunteers again. If you have hawk
watching experience or an interest in learning and would like to volunteer,
please let me know. This year we will have a special connection with Cuba as
we have started a hawk watch there to focus primarily on Swallow-tailed
Kites but they will be counting all raptors passing by five different watch
sites there. We are hoping to do a student art exchange with a local Anahuac
school and a school in Cuba focusing on raptors. I am also hoping to
institute a hawk watch blog to keep everyone more up to date on happenings
at Smith Point. I am also available to give a presentation on the hawk watch
to local bird clubs, potential funders, etc. so if anyone has any ideas,
please contact me.
