The norther barreled through Palacios about 3am with high winds and hard rain. When Brian Berry and I started at Formosa Tejano this morning at 7:15am, we still had cool/cold, overcast and very windy conditions. The good news is that mosquitos and bees were not a problem :-). Birds were on the move and we had some FOF birds including, Northern Pintail (17) Ring-necked Duck (7) Northern Flicker (2) Orange-crowned Warbled (1) Also a late Chimney Swift (flagged by eBird) and the male Vermillion Flycatcher is still hanging by the ground blind in front of the big marsh. Eastern Phoebe, Meadowlarks and RC Kinglets have really moved into the area during the last week. Seems like we're getting the second push of Indigo Buntings; 6 yesterday in Palacios and 5 today at Tejano. Lots of swallows (N Rough-winged, Tree and Barn) and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers about. Still no geese or Sandhills yet (for me) but I know others have seem them. Here's a link the list. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S15441799 BTW, there is a new path and elevated walkway being built over the northern part of Trull Marsh along Hwy 35 in Palacios. Should be good once things settle down from the construction. Good birding!
