We meet regularly on the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM at The First Tee at 915 E. Mulberry at the south end of Brackenridge Park. The next one on June 5 will be Judit Green, Urban Biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife talking about wildlife conservation issues in Texas, What does the future hold? On Tuesday, June 3, at 7:30 AM we are meeting Jane Henry at the Leon Vista Trailhead 8561 Rochelle St at the intersection of Whitby St and Rochelle. Bring water and insect repellant. On Thursday, June5, we are meeting Desi D'Orsogna at Joshua Springs Park at 7:30 AM. To reach this park, take I-10 westbound to the Welfare exit, #533, and take FM 289 past Popo restaurant until it crosses under I-10. Go under the expressway and turn right then take the next left into the park. Meet Desi at the first parking lot. Contact her at 830.755.8642 to let her know you are coming. Saturday, June 7 we are going to Warbler Woods at night. Meet there at 7 PM. Take I-35 towards Austin and exit to Wiederstein Rd exit 146. Turn right and go to the first left, Old Wiederstein Rd. Proceed past Dean Rd to 19349 Old Wiederstein Rd. and the green mail box on the right.. Bring a flashlight, a chair, insect repellant and water. We will be looking for owls, nighthawks, and nightjars. The next Beginner's bird walk starts at the Judson Nature Trails near the Alamo Heights swimming pool on Viesca Street on Saturday, June 14. Meet leader Georgina Schwartz at 7:30 AM. Directions: at the 5900 block on Broadway, turn west on Ogden Street and go to the stop sign at Greely St. Turn left one block and then right on Viesca and go to the parking lot on the left before the swimming pool. We have some binoculars to lend out, so bring a friend. Georgina's number is 210-342-2073 Sunday, June 15, at 7:00 AM we will meet Sandi Wheeler at Crescent Bend Nature Park on Schafer Road in NE Bexar county. Bring water and snacks. There will be bird walks at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center Beginning at 7:30 AM for the summer on the 1st Sunday, 2nd Sunday, 3rd Sunday, and the 2nd Tuesday The 4th Saturday trip always starts at 8 AM..The Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is open each week from Tuesday through Sunday from 8 to 4. The fee for the guided tour is now $8 since this place is now an Audubon Center. Any Audubon membership anywhere will get you in free any other time. Just ring the buzzer and they will open the gate. Call the Center at 210-628-1639. The gate is on the left 0.7 mile south of loop 410 Moursund Blvd, exit #46. There is a bird walk on the third Saturday of each month at 9 AM at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. This is not a SAAS trip, but is usually very interesting. There is a fee for entrance to the garden. Every one is welcome at our activities and you don't have to be a member to participate.
