Hi, all, Just for clarification, in years past volunteers would bring their own rigs down for the winter and actually camp there at the site, and maintain the feeders. (Cheryl Longton, who along with her hubby and another couple who camped and maintained the feeders last winter, told me they've NEVER had a problem overnight...). This is the activity that the VLF has put a halt to for liability reasons; the road down to the river and the trails on either side have always been, and will remain accessible. The idea has been presented to hire a local to come down and open the feeder area during the day and stock the feeders, closing it up at night, but I don't know if that's being seriously considered; it sounds like a good compromise to me! In contrast, the newspaper article referenced earlier on Texbirds, at the link below, says that the site will be open during the day but that no one will live in the trailer. If this is the case, it seems that it will have minimal impact on visiting birders. So, when we go down to the RGV this winter, can we count on getting great views of those Valley birds at the feeders during the day?
