Howdy Texbirders,
I checked the sod farm on S Citrus Rd this afternoon. No Mountain Plovers
today, however it was nice to find my first of spring American Golden-Plovers
(9) and Pectoral Sandpipers (2); pretty much right on time. The farmer was
very busy cutting turf though this did not seem to disturb the birds
excessively. The birds seemed to prefer the cut areas and recently mowed areas.
The other surprising aspect of this turn around the western roads of Matagorda
County was the complete lack of geese and Sandhills. Ducks were also in short
supply except for small numbers of Blue-winged Teal and Ruddy Ducks. No
passerine migrants today.
Thanks and good birding!
