Hi Texbirders, I just had a brief look at a subadult male Broad-billed Hummingbird at Russ Pitman Park in Bellaire (Houston). This was a medium-sized dark hummingbird with a slightly decurved orange bill with a black tip. The gorget on throat was partly filled in with dark blue. Belly was whitish. It had a long, slightly notched tail. Dorsum of tail was black, not rufous. A narrow but prominent white supercilium extended behind the eye. It was "tic"-ing loudly as it foraged briefly in shrimp plants before disappearing over chain link fence. Bird was seen near southwest corner of park where a dead branch lies at an angle over a small clump of Shrimp Plants near the chain link fence. The adul male Calliope Hummingbird was hanging out this morning at the plum tree wth hummer feeder and shrimp plants at the front (east side) of the house. Good birding ya'll, Byron Stone, Austin Sent from my iPhoneEdit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
