On the way home from birding Granger Lake today, I made a quick stop at Mankin's Crossing (the old low water crossing on the San Gabriel River along HWY 29 between Granger Lake and Georgetown) and photographed a female Ringed Kingfisher on the upstream side of the crossing. Considering a Green Kingfisher was reported on eBird about a mile upstream from here a couple of weeks ago, it may be possible (with great luck!) to see all three regularly occurring U.S.Kingfishers at this location right now. Highlights from Granger Lake included: Great Scaup 1 (female type on CR 352 pond) Eared Grebe 58 (From the dam. Largest concentration I have ever seen on the lake.) Burrowing Owl 3 (CR 352, CR 356, FM 971) Spotted Towhee 2 (San Gabriel WMA) Chipping Sparrow 1 (San Gabriel WMA) Vesper Sparrow 6 Savannah Sparrow 30 Le Conte's Sparrow 1 (San Gabriel WMA) Fox Sparrow 22 (8 in one tree in San Gabriel WMA, most singing) Song Sparrow 8 (San Gabriel WMA) Lincoln's Sparrow 2 (San Gabriel WMA) Swamp Sparrow 1 (San Gabriel WMA) White-throated Sparrow 6 (San Gabriel WMA) Harris's Sparrow 12 (San Gabriel WMA) White-crowned Sparrow 2 (San Gabriel WMA) Cheers, Tim Fennell Round Rock, TX (15 miles north of Austin) Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
