Plus there is a spectacular male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in the deck area (sapsuckers are also near the first bridge and the large ash on the tram road). A Nashville Warbler was working a Huisache tree just before the Kiskadee Deck - the same tree one was seen in last Friday. There are more Blue-winged Teal than we've seen in months, Gadwall and American Wigeon in good numbers, Mottled Ducks, four Northern Pintail, yet not a single Shoveler this morning. Two Verdin were busy and visible near the Flycatcher Trail cutoff, one carrying nesting material. Nearby, a Black-crested Titmouse had its bill full of lichen. On Flycatcher Trail, past Hogg Trail, a Greater Roadrunner was calling. Altamira Orioles seem to be checking out possible nesting spots. White-tipped Dove are calling throughout the Ebony woods. link to photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/102513301549844753448/YellowBelliedSapsuckerMore?authuser=0&feat=directlink -- Sherry Wilson Resident Park Host Resaca de la Palma State Park 1000 New Carmen Road Brownsville, TX 78521 956-350-2920 Bird Walks every Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Butterfly Walks every Sunday - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Night Hikes every Friday (must RSVP by 5:00 p.m. Thurs) - small fee Nature Tram Rides - Wednesday thru Sunday (Visitor Center closed Mon/Tues) http://www.facebook.com/resacadelapalma DIRECTIONS: The main entrance to Resaca de la Palma State Park is located on New Carmen Blvd. From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left at New Carmen Road; follow for 1.5 miles; shortly after the gravel hump in the road, turn left to enter the park. *Learn how you can help Texas State Parks:* http://bit.ly/sVdilb 48 species Gadwall 13 American Wigeon 18 Mottled Duck 7 Blue-winged Teal 37 Northern Pintail 4 Plain Chachalaca 5 Least Grebe 5 Pied-billed Grebe 7 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Great Blue Heron 4 Great Egret 3 Snowy Egret 1 Little Blue Heron 11 White Ibis 43 Turkey Vulture 1 Red-shouldered Hawk 1 American Coot 4 Killdeer 1 Solitary Sandpiper 1 Inca Dove 2 White-tipped Dove 3 Greater Roadrunner 1 heard not seen Belted Kingfisher 3 Golden-fronted Woodpecker 4 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2 Ladder-backed Woodpecker 8 Eastern Phoebe 4 Great Kiskadee 6 Couch's Kingbird 5 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher 1 White-eyed Vireo 7 Green Jay 11 Black-crested Titmouse 3 Verdin 2 House Wren 3 Bewick's Wren 1 Carolina Wren 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 Northern Mockingbird 2 Long-billed Thrasher 3 Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Nashville Warbler 1 Common Yellowthroat 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler 7 Olive Sparrow 5 Northern Cardinal 13 Red-winged Blackbird 57 Altamira Oriole 2 Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
