Other than the arrival of Green-winged Teal and plenty of easily visible ducks now that water is filling the first part of the resaca, the morning was unremarkable until we arrived back in the parking island area. There we found a Blue-winged Warbler in a mixed flock that stayed in the area between the maintenance road and park entrance throughout the afternoon. No photos yet, but a Black-throated Gray was found in the mix mid afternoon. Perhaps someone will manage to get a photo tomorrow. -- Sherry Wilson Resident Park Host Resaca de la Palma State Park 1000 New Carmen Road Brownsville, TX 78521 956-350-2920 Bird Walks every Saturday - 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Butterfly Walks every Sunday - 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Night Hikes every Friday (must RSVP by 5:00 p.m. Thurs) - small fee Nature Tram Rides - Thursday thru Sunday http://www.facebook.com/resacadelapalma DIRECTIONS: The main entrance to Resaca de la Palma State Park is located on New Carmen Blvd. From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left at New Carmen Road; follow for 1.5 miles; shortly after the gravel hump in the road, turn left to enter the park. *Learn how you can help Texas State Parks:* http://bit.ly/sVdilb 60 species Gadwall 17 American Wigeon 4 Mottled Duck 14 Blue-winged Teal 6 Northern Shoveler 14 Green-winged Teal 13 Ruddy Duck 1 Plain Chachalaca 4 Least Grebe 3 Pied-billed Grebe 1 Great Blue Heron 1 Snowy Egret 1 Black Vulture 1 Turkey Vulture 26 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Harris's Hawk 1 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 1 American Coot 9 Killdeer 3 Solitary Sandpiper 1 Greater Yellowlegs 4 Western Sandpiper 9 Least Sandpiper 44 Stilt Sandpiper 2 Short-billed Dowitcher 21 Long-billed Dowitcher 33 Mourning Dove 1 Inca Dove 2 White-tipped Dove 2 Belted Kingfisher 1 Green Kingfisher 4 Golden-fronted Woodpecker 3 Ladder-backed Woodpecker 1 American Kestrel 1 Eastern Phoebe 8 Great Kiskadee 15 White-eyed Vireo 1 Blue-headed Vireo 1 Green Jay 17 Tree Swallow 2 Black-crested Titmouse 4 House Wren 8 Carolina Wren 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 5 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5 Northern Mockingbird 1 Long-billed Thrasher 2 Blue-winged Warbler 1 visible through the afternoon, unmistakable vibrant yellow, black eyeline, blue wings Black-and-white Warbler 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 17 Common Yellowthroat 1 Black-throated Gray Warbler 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler 3 Wilson's Warbler 1 Olive Sparrow 4 Northern Cardinal 11 Red-winged Blackbird 3 Great-tailed Grackle 5 Altamira Oriole 1 Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
