After some needed rain, the park looked refreshed. Migrants were scattered but definitely present, with seven warbler species. Young Mockingbirds are begging for a meal. Today's Groove-billed Ani were found along the tram road and South Mexican Olive Trail. All shorebirds were seen either at the Kiskadee Deck or the second bridge. The only sad note is that the second nest of the Visitor Center Altamira Orioles came down in the wind. The first nest was only a few days into construction in a Tepeguaje visible from the butterfly gardens and picnic pavilion, when strong wind took it down. After a couple days of serious deliberation (she perched motionless in the tree for extended periods, at any rate) a new nest was constructed in the same spot, this time weaving the branch into the new nest. When finished, the nest was quite impressive. There were surely eggs lost this time. Since the pair is being seen nearby we hope a third nest will be built, this time in a spot less affected by wind.
