Howdy Texbirders, John Tharp and I made a run up the coast from Quintana to the east end of Galveston Island, and saw many very good birds. The best were Wilson's Phalarope at the "spoil bank" area to the south of the Quintana bridge. It was using it's phalarope feeding style in close proximity to three Northern Shoveler. At San Luis Pass, we counted 3,420 Redhead Ducks and in one group was a wonderful Greater Scaup. Later, at Sportman's Road, we had a Common Goldeneye. A tally of 105 species. It is very nice to be back in Texas, although five months in Costa Rica was pretty darn sweet! Dennis Shepler West Harris County -- W.
