TexBirders, Sunrise found me on the tip of the Surfside Jetty. Not many ducks moving by, but I had an immature Magnificent Frigatebird harassing the gulls off the end of the Quintana Jetty. This is late, but not unprecedented. We have had frigatebird records from every month of the year on the Upper Coast. But they are pretty darn rare from Dec-Feb. Drove the beach from Surfside to San Luis Pass but could not refind the first winter Great Black-backed Gull photographed by Jim Stevenson on the 29th. Did see quite a few small plovers with the low tide including Piping, Snowy and Semipalmated. Also counted over 2000 Sandhill Cranes in fallow rice fields along CR 203 near Liverpool and CR 210 near Angleton. Many Snows and White-fronts with them.
