Travis Audubon has been granted permission from the management company of
Capital Plaza Shopping Center (Cencor Realty Services) to hold our annual
Purple Martin Parties at the site of this year's roost. For some unknown
reason, the roost moved from the Highland Mall/ACC area where it had been
for at least 30 years to Capital Plaza, 1.2 miles away from last year's
roost location. Capital Plaza is located in the 5400 block of IH 35.
Our parties are an opportunity to get a bunch of our birding friends
together for a night of spectacular bird watching, an opportunity to get
non-birders out to witness this amazing spectacle of nature and an
opportunity to educate everyone about this special bird. We will have
information tables with information about the Purple Martins and Travis
Audubon. We'll have our first ever Purple Martin Party t-shirts for sale
and our first ever Purple Martin pins for sale. We'll also be selling
Travis Audubon memberships. Volunteers will be answering questions and
sharing in the excitement of those who attend.
The birds will obviously be at the roost every night until about mid or
late August, but we'd love for you to visit on one of our party nights. The
parties are the remaining Friday and Saturday nights in July from about
7:45p - 9:00p. See our webpage for more details:

Watch for signs regarding where to park and where to view the roost. This
is a very busy shopping center so please be careful. And help us stay in
good with the management by parking where you're supposed to and watching
the roost come alive from the viewing area.
