Some folks appreciate knowing when a birding experience at a given site has
been less than desired, so here is my report on the very minimal
shorebirding success my wife (Birgit) and I had at the Progreso sod fields
in the late afternoon of Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Our only two shorebird finds
were BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (25) and KILLDEER (2). It was fun to see two
Black-tailed Jackrabbits near the eastern edge of the field that provided
the shorebird species yesterday, which was a long sod field on the east
side of the traversal road. That field is not far north of the south end of
that road. Both the shorebirds and the jackrabbits were in the north end
of that sod field. We saw no raptors at the Progreso fields yesterday
afternoon (except a cruising Turkey Vulture, if one wishes to deem that a
raptor).
