I birded NE Travis County, this morning, and despite dipping on longspurs (again), had some great birds, best being a Prairie Falcon (presumably the same one chuck found on 1/10) harassing a blackbird flock on Wells School Road. It eventually landed in a tree on the opposite side of the field, and offered poor scope looks, as the heat waves were terrible. After about 5 minutes, it flew off to the south. Other good birds in NE Travis were the continuing Eastern Towhee and a hybrid Spotted X Eastern on Carlson Lane, singing Horned Larks on Wells Lane, and a Great Horned Owl on Skog Rd. With some time left in the day, I headed to Decker Lake to try for the American Bittern. I had no luck, but a Herring Gull among the hoards of Ring-billed Gulls and a Yellow Warbler definitely were nice consolation prizes. hybrid towhee: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57637231@N04/8399875727/in/photostream/ yellow warbler: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57637231@N04/8400962950/in/photostream/ horned lark: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57637231@N04/8400963276/in/photostream/ Good Birding, Sam Fason, Austin Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
