The Grooved-billed Ani has been confirmed this morning in Aledo, Tarrant
County. (Michael made an error in his subject line.)
Greg Cook called me to say he spotted and photographed the bird this
morning. However, the homeowner asked Greg to not 'publicly' broadcast their
address. They are willing to allow a few birders access via their property,
but not continuous visitors.

The location is next to a fairway on Lost Creek Golf Course. I plan to speak
to the course manager about access from the fairway, but I expect they also
won't tolerate a large group or frequent visitors even though we mean well.
I will let people know what the course manager says after I speak to him.

Hopefully, the Ani will stay for a while. We are expecting a storm front
Saturday evening with flash flooding possible. Then possible snow flurries
Sunday evening and more seasonable weather all of next week.

Subject: [texbirds] Possible Groove-billed Ani in Parker County

Early this afternoon, Jim Jones of Fort Worth Audubon (FWAS) got a call from
a former FWAS member by the name of Mike Lee who is visiting his parents in
Aledo. He saw a bird in the morning that he worked out was a Groove-billed
Ani, then saw it again several times working the understory next to the
creek behind his parent's house. I've spoken to him myself and alerted
several area birders that are in Parker County to go check it out. Mike
said he got some not so great pictures that I have not seen yet, but hope to
soon. He and his parents have graciously allowed many of us access, and we
are going to 1) confirm the ID, and 2) make sure it's OK for to allow more
general access before posting any specific location info to TEXBIRDS. We
will also make sure that documentation is made and submitted for local and
state record keepers.
Regards,

Michael Francis
