So I got to South Padre late Friday afternoon, and it was still magical, two days after the beginning of the fall-out. It wasn't just the birds. Everybody, old hands and passing tourists, had big smiles. A Hooded Warbler flew up and perched on my camera lens. I guess he wanted to say hello. I went back to SPI today and picked up a few more great birds, all of which approached one from just a few feet away. Highlights from both days include Cerulean Warbler, Swainson's Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Yellow-headed Blackbird, American Redstart, Swainson's and Gray-cheeked Thrush, Kentucky Warbler, Painted Buntings, both tanagers, and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
