here.
Last Sunday- Thursday I birded the Port Aransas, Ingleside, and Corpus Christi
areas. Here are some of the more interesting highlights.
Sunday, 23rd
Aplomado Falcon- Port A Jetty area, specifically near the Magee Beach Park
Office
Common Loons, Conn Brown Harbor
Monday, 24th
Peregrine Falcon- Hunting in field across from Marine Institute, near Jetty area
Great Kiskadee- Paradise Pond (reliably found every trip here for 4 days)
Couch’s Kingbirds- Paradise Pond
Roseate Spoonbills- Turnbull Birding Center
Yellow-headed Blackbird- Female- Turnbull Birding Center
Blue-headed Vireo- Turnbull Birding Center
Sora- Turnbull Birding Center
Cinnamon Teal- (1) Turnbull Birding Center
Red-breasted Merganser- Paradise Pond (reliably found every trip here for 4
days)
Scissor-tail Flycatcher- Paradise Pond
Tuesday, 25th
Vermillion Flycatcher- (1) Whitney Lake Marsh Park, (2) Live Oak Park
Eastern Meadowlarks- Whitney Lake Marsh Park
Golden-fronted Woodpecker- Live Oak Park
White-tailed Hawk- Juvenile- Live Oak Park
Common Loons, Ingleside on the Bay
Black-crowned Night Herons, Paradise Pond (caught 70+ leaving roosting area at
pond and flying over hotel at dusk)
Wednesday, 26th
Black-bellied Plover- Mustang Island SP and Packery Channel Park
Short/Long-billed Dowichers, Packery Channel Park
Great Kiskadees- Pollywog Ponds (at least a dozen, they were seen and heard
constantly, many at one time)
Couch’s Kingbirds- Pollywog Ponds
Western Kingbird- (1) Pollywog Ponds
Great Horned Owl- Pollywog Ponds
Lesser Scaup- Pollywog Ponds
Bufflehead- Pollywog Ponds
Ruddy Ducks- Pollywog Ponds
Northern Shovelers- Pollywog Ponds
Wood Ducks- Pollywog Ponds
Ladderback Woodpecker- Pollywog Ponds
Green Jays- (2) Hazel Bazemore Park
Vermillion Flycatcher- (2) Hazel Bazemore Park
Great Kiskadee- Hazel Bazemore Park
American Avocets- Hazel Bazemore Park
American Wigeons- Hazel Bazemore Park
Reddish Egret- Juveniles- Hazel Bazemore Park
Northern Pintail- Hazel Bazemore Park
Northern Shovelers- Hazel Bazemore Park
Wilson’s Phalarope- (1) Hazel Bazemore Park
Black-crowned Night Herons- Paradise Pond (At least 120 counted leaving
roosting area at pond around same time, dusk, 6PM)
Thursday, 27th
Roseate Spoonbills- Turnbull Birding Center
Northern Harrier- Turnbull Birding Center
Cinnamon Teal- (1) Turnbull Birding Center
Redheads- Turnbull Birding Center (1000s came in and landed on the pond)
