On 26 June 2016 I completed - with some difficulty - the Plains II BBS.
This route is entirely in Yoakum County (though it flirts with Terry County
for a few miles), running from a point north of Plains eastward to the
county line and then southward to a point south-southeast of Plains. A
portion of this route has had to be re-routed from a north south dirt road
to a parallel paved road due to encroaching dunes and, I am told, a
disagreement between two counties regarding maintenance of a county line
road resulting in no maintenance, whatsoever, of said road. I also
experienced a ten minute delay while working around another sand-covered
stretch of road ... but finished well within the boundaries of BBS protocol.
Though this is my driest, most wildlife-forsaken route - much of it is
dryland cotton in every direction, even it showed some evidence of drought
recovery with rebound numbers of Northern Bobwhite, Western Kingbird,
Horned Lark, Cassin's Sparrow, and Lark Sparrow evident.
