Hi Texbirders, Went across on Bolivar ferry heading to High Island Checked for shore birds at Frenchtown Road (almost dried up) Mostly Sanderlings at Bolivar Flats. However, a pool of water on Yacht Basin Road had a half dozen Wilson's Phalaropes, some Least Sandpipers, 1 Piping Plover, numerous Yellowlegs and 1 Whimbrel Here is the male Wilson's Phalarope. http://www.pbase.com/davidmcd/image/155501556 And the beautiful female http://www.pbase.com/davidmcd/image/155501574 Also took a photo of a Least Sandpiper in front of a Greater Yellowlegs. What a size difference! http://www.pbase.com/davidmcd/image/155501588 At High Island, the people said there were not many birds, but checked the board and it said there were Bobolinks on White's Ranch Road east of 124 Stopped there. There were 4 males on the fence and about another 10 in the field north of the road...no females seen. http://www.pbase.com/davidmcd/image/155501605 There were lots shorebirds along 1985, but too far out for photos. Finally stopped at Anahuac and the Ruff was still present out from the observation deck. Went to Lafitte's Cove in late afternoon, and saw a few birds..Canada, Magnolia, Tennessee and Bay-breasted Warblers. It certainly has been a strange migration - few warblers the last 2 weekends.
