The upper air readings around the western Gulf coast today were NW to NNW
and mostly in the upper 20s (knots) except for an anomalous 16 at Corpus.
Surface winds were in the single digits making for a pleasant day at the
coast. NEXRAD revealed virtually no bird echoes except for a couple of
small raptor flocks to the south of town. Four strange-looking images
confined almost entirely to Cameron Parish and moving exactly with the wind
appeared to be smoke from marsh fires. At any rate they definitely were not
birds.
