Upper winds are S to SW at 25 to 30 kts - the kind of weather that really propels migrants northward, although it usually does add up to birds on the ground as migrants take advantage of the boost to penetrate well inland before they land. South of Brownsville and south of Corpus Christi are some large kettles of kettle-and-glide migrants, probably raptors (Broad-winged Hawks and Turkey Vulture are numerically dominant at this stage of the season). Some of these targets may represent waders and other coastal species. John C.
