6/17/12

Fathers and mothers in the High Island rookery are VERY busy. There are lots of
full grown chicks and quite a few new nests as many birds have moved into the
rattle bean in front of observation platform 1. 30+ Wood Storks are roosting in
the big oaks between Claybottom Pond and Smith Pond.

An Osprey was sitting on a power pole on hwy 87 in Port Bolivar. There was an
Osprey on that pole all spring I wonder if it is the same bird.

Shorebird numbers are down on Bolivar Flats when the water was down for a
little while yesterday the most common bird on the mud was Semi-palmated Plover
they were eating worms. Today the water has been high all day and Willets and
Marbled Godwits were working the sargassum on the beach.

A Common Loon and a Surf Scoter were swimming near the North Jetty this
morning. Quite a surprise.
