A cluster of strong thunderstorms dominated the central Texas coast with
larger areas of widespread, but lighter, rain showers eastward on the upper
Texas coast and inland East Texas and western Louisiana. Upper level winds
were S only at Brownsville at 21 kt. and below 20 but SW at the rest of the
stations. At 11:30 only Brownsville was showing migrants heading straight
up the coast. Likely bird echoes were masked by widespread precipitation at
more northeasterly stations.

Despite the forecast yesterday it appears that today will be last day of
unsettled weather until after the weekend when a dry but strongish cold
front arrives. So the best coastal migrant-watching would appear to be this
afternoon with some possibly lingering into Friday and maybe even Saturday.
This past week has been rather unusual for the season with (continuing)
relatively light winds both aloft and at the surface. Normally this period
has quite strong winds. Nevertheless reports would indicate that spring
arrivals are occurring a few days earlier than averages.
