Thanks to Shirley and Dan Wilkerson for posting the Longspur sightings. There were about 50 birds present and cooperative, allowing close views yesterday morning. This is at the Horizon Turf Farm (Wilcox Turf Farm hot spot in eBird) along CR 443, off of Hwy 50 in Burleson County. The sod farm is large and the birds were frequenting the dryer, shorter looking Bermuda Grass and some of the more bare spots at the farm. These areas are generally on the north side of CR 443. Down on the east end of the farm there is a creek and a bit further a fence row. Some riparian species were present at the creek and the fence row held some sparrows including Harris'. Also of note is the road; it is a bit rough though very navigable with a sedan and wide enough to park out of the way of workers driving up and down CR 443. Pack your patience, your scope and camera and enjoy this fun birding location!
