Texbirders,

There was good news in today's Austin American-Statesman that the recent
central Texas rains have enabled the LCRA to postpone plans to cut off water
to Matagorda Bay - at least for a few months. Unfortunately, the full
article is available only by subscription, but this link
http://tinyurl.com/k7qq8ve will enable you to read the headline and first
paragraph. The LCRA home page also has an article about the recent rainfall
and its effects: http://www.lcra.org/. Hopefully, this will help restore to
the bay the amount of freshwater that will be needed to support the
vegetation and blue crabs that the Whooping Crane population will need
during this fall and winter. I don't know about the life cycle of the blue
crabs, but perhaps someone else can chime in and let us know whether this
water will be timely or too late to be beneficial this year.
