Greetings All: Though it is decidedly tricky to get around this morning, I did get out for a few errands and a large, brownish gull at Leroy Elmore Park stalled me for about a half hour. In addition to the first cycle Herring Gull there were two other highlights: 7 Wood Ducks and 1 Red-breasted Merganser (in the company of 2 Hooded Mergansers). The number of cormorants is way down - from almost 100 the last time I looked to 2 - but duck diversity has picked up considerably. The increase in duck diversity is probably the result of smaller playas with poorer circulation freezing over and consequent searches for open water. Though I did not stop, Maxey Park has some open water and might be good and Whisperwood Pond was absolutely packed with waterfowl. I may try to get a handle on the Whisperwood Pond situation this afternoon - when things have started thawing a bit.
