Greetings All: I just took a quick look at the calendar and, assuming I have got the Saturdays and Sundays right, the three Lubbock area CBCs will be held on the following dates. Weather conditions this year have, once again, been unfavorable for birds in general but have been VERY FAVORABLE for the concentration of birds at the few remaining refugia. What this means for the counts is that there should be a chance at some really nifty birds at the more than twenty riparian areas within the Lubbock County CBC circle and that, one again, there is outstanding potential for the best winter birding in the entire region at White River Lake. LUBBOCK COUNTY CBC - Saturday, 15 December 2012. We meet with team leaders at an agreed upon location, bird from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and will then meet at a yet to be determined locale for a potluck supper and countdown at 5:00 PM - the countdown to start at 6:00 PM if humanly possible. To do this count well, I need eight team leaders and at least twenty counters. MULESHOE NWR CBC - Sunday, 16 December 2012. We meet at refuge headquarters at 7:30 AM, bird from then until roughly noon or so (it is an area restricted count and does not take terribly long to cover), and meet back at headquarters for a potluck lunch (often leftovers from the potluck the evening before; stews and chili and such) and countdown. To do this count well I need four team leaders and at least ten counters. WHITE RIVER LAKE CBC - Saturday, 29 December 2012. We meet at the White River Lake Marina at 7:30 AM, bird from then until around 5:00 PM, and meet back at the marina for a hot dinner at the diner; countdown to start at 6:00 PM so that we can get out of the restaurant in a timely fashion. To do this count well, I need five team leaders and at least twelve counters. There will be no CBC fees this year - but there is a lake fee at the White River Lake CBC; for those who are on the lake teams. . If you are interested in participating in any of these counts, please contact Anthony Hewetson at terrverts@xxxxxxxxx or at 806-252-1213. Every observer is appreciated and every team sees nifty birds. Anthony 'Fat Tony' Hewetson; Lubbock
