Lubbock received 3.03 inches of rain during the month, a bit above the
average August total of 2.35 inches, and is now at 9.78 inches for the year
... catching up, a bit, with the average year-to-date total of 13.03
inches. Some regional playas were nicely refurbished by the end of the
month and a lot of the highlights fell in the waterbirds category.
Swallows, of all species, were a bit easier to come by than during recent
fall migration - possibly due to a standing water-spurred increase in
insects.
Regional summaries of eBird data can not be acquired in a timely fashion.
Consequently, records submitted to eBird may not appear in this report.
Reports from the region that are submitted to the texbirds or leasbirds
listserve can be reviewed in a timely fashion and should appear.
As always, the county follows the site in ( ) and birds are mentioned by
virtue of rarity, atypical abundance, or atypical scarcity. I believe that
this list captures all of the recent changes in taxonomy accepted by the
AOU - and there are some doozies!
