Texbirders,
Spent a good part of today birding at The Lowlands in search of Purple
Finches. No luck with the finches but the star birds of the day was a pair
of Green Kingfishers initially spotted by my brother John Jasek and then
seen and photographed by myself and my husband George (full bird list and
photo on eBird). According to eBird, there have been a few other records in
the area from about 10 years ago but still unusual for this far east. Birds
were seen along Evan's Gully just past the split of Evan's Gully trail and
Old Bus trail.
Other fun birds included Swamp Sparrows, Winter Wren, Blue-headed Vireo,
and 5 species of woodpeckers: Downy, Red-bellied, Northern Flicker,
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Pileated.
