[texbirds] Local Patch Birding - City of Pearland Nature Park

While scanning the map of my local patch circle I noted what looked
like a park on Google Earth. I could find no info for it on the
Pearland Parks website or Brazoria County website. On my way back from
the TOS meeting I stopped and found it to be the City of Pearland
Nature Park. This park is unmentioned anywhere online except as a
description on a bond issue. The park is located just north of Shadow
Creek Parkway on Kingsley Drive

The park is a reasonable size with a very nice wetlands trail that I
think has some good potential for migrant shorebirds. The east end of
the park is a canal to drain the effluent form a sewage plant into
Clear Creek, and there is a mowed path along Clear Creek with some
good sized woods. I think the location will also have some potential
for nontropical migrants.

the signage is being destroyed by the sun, but the design of the park
is pretty nice. There is a paved path about 0.9 miles long that is
completely wheelchair accessible.

the City of Pearland did a nice job with this park, leaving natural
vegetation natural and planting some quality trees that should be
great when they mature. If you live in the area I think this park
deserves some patronage just so the City of Pearland can be encouraged
to do other things like this the right way. This park has no soccer
field, no play ground and no dog park. Its a nature park that should
serve as a model for other cities.

about 90 minutes of birding is below
