Hello all,
To be honest, I only put in about two-thirds of a day worth of effort for
the Global Big Day in Lubbock County yesterday, 14 May. As Anthony
mentioned, it was hard to find migrants of any flavor, water or landbirds.
Even without early evening obligations, I doubt I would have continued
beating the bushes, though, regrettably, I did miss the Leroy Elmore Park
mixed-species rookery, which would have given me a few more species for the
day. The best birds of the day were an adult LEAST TERN that appeared late
morning at Lake Ransom Canyon (spillway) and a female ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK off E. Brookhollow Dr. There were also no fewer than 20 AMERICAN
GOLDFINCHES, with 17-18+ in one flock, and 6+ PINE SISKINS in the same
general area. On a personal note, I was pleased to find a pair of INCA
DOVES at Yucca Ln.; the first I've detected in the region.
Good birding,
Justin Bosler
