On Saturday, seven parties ended up with 111 species. This is a few more than 10-year average. The water level of the lake has been low in years past, but this was probably the lowest level ever. Big miss was Orange-crowned Warbler, which had been seen in all of the last 10 years. We had 4 species not seen on the count in the last 10 years. Merlin - seen at Lakeside Park, has been seen on the count before, but not in the last 10 years. A Western Grebe was also seen at Lakeside. Three were seen the day before and the day after at Tejas Villiage looking toward Island View. (Or you could look from Island View and look toward Tejas). They appear to be hanging with the rafting Ruddy Ducks. The Say's Phoebe that was first seen in October has stayed put and was found on count day, the bird is at Hwy 155 Marina. Also at the Hwy 155 Marina an American Avocet was found. Other neat birds include a Pacific Loon found at Alley Creek. Two different parties found Henslow's Sparrows with a total of 4 individuals.
