Excellent afternoon at Lafitte's today! Lots of birds and birders. The biggest surge of migrants was in the 5:30 to 6:30 PM time frame. Highlights as follows: Swainson's Hawk - 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 Eastern Pewee - 4 Great Crested Flycatcher - 1 Eastern Kingbird - 6 Yellow-throated Vireo- 1 Blue-headed Vireo - 2 Warbling Vireo - 20+ , Seemingly everywhere for a few hours this afternoon. Philadelphia Vireo - 1 very likely candidate seen briefly this afternoon Red Eyed Vireo ~ 6 Swainson's Thrush - 4 Wood Thrush - 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 2 Tennessee Warbler > 10 Orange-crowned Warbler - 3 Nashville Warbler ~ 8 Northern Parula - 1 Yelow Warbler - 1 or 2 males Yellow-rumped Warbler - a few (Audubon's form still hanging around and looking sharp for spring) Black-throated Green Warbler > 10 Blackburnian Warbler - 1 or 2 males Palm Warbler - 2 Black and White Warbler ~ 4 American Redstart - 2 Prothonotary Warbler - 1 Worm-eating Warbler - at least 2 Ovenbird - 2 Northern Waterthrush - 1 Kentucky Warbler - 1 Common Yellowthroat - 2 Hooded Warbler - 2 Wilson's Warbler - 1 Canada Warbler - 1 male, seen by many observers Yellow-breasted Chat - 2 White-throated Sparrow White Crowned Sparrow Summer Tanager ~ 10 Scarlet Tanager ~ 6 Rose-breasted Grosbeak ~ 10 Blue Grosbeak - 2 Indigo Bunting > 40 Dickcissel - several flyovers Orchard Oriole > 15 Baltimore Oriole > 15 Other goodies reported that I wasn't able to get on myself included Black-billed Cuckoo (2 in the morning), 1 male Bullock's Oriole (well seen by an observer familiar with the species), and Painted Buntings.
