Texbirders,
Considering the hummingbird discussion in another thread, here's an
observation I just made at the ranch where I work in western Travis County
(Austin). I was watching my feeders with binoculars when a Ruby-throated
Hummingbird came into view, hovering over the suet block I just put out. I
observed it reach in and grab a couple of bits of the suet before heading
over to the nectar feeder to wash it all down. That's the first time I've
observed that.
I am currently observing at least six ruby-throated/black chinned
hummingbirds and two rufous/allens (one adult male and one female/immature
male) coming to two feeders here at the ranch.
