Texbirders (who are ebirders)-- Echoing Chuck's recent Texbirds request (copied at bottom)--here's how to transfer your sightings to: Williamson Co.—CR428 & CR361 from your current personal striped sparrow location. These directions would also work to combine any existing personal location with any hotspot. I have previously emailed these directions to the 110 folks who used a personal hotspot for the striped sparrow but here they are again below just in case., along with an alternative method. Thanks!! John Berner Texas ebird hotspot administrator Houston ****************************************************************** Striped sparrow ebirders: Sorry to bother you--but am looking for a quick favor Ideally we would display all striped sightings sightings at a shared public hotspot instead of 100+ individual personal locations on top of each other. The data would be much more accessible to all if you could each do the following to combine all personal sparrow locations into one shared hotspot location. 1. login to ebird 2. click on the "my ebird" tab 3. Click on the "Manage my Locations" list on the right side of the page 4. In the Search rectangle in the upper right type a part of your personal name for the striped sparrow spot Everyone of you used one of the following in your personal ebird hotspot name 428 or Sparrow or Granger in your personal location title so try searching one of those. if one doesn't work try one of the others. 5. A list of locations should appear in a pulldown box immediately below the search rectangle. Pick the correct one. Some of you will only have one to choose from. others will have more than one. 6. Select the correct striped sparrow personal location 7. A map of the area near the sparrow should appear with a green pushpin in the center at your personal location. Press page reload button if the map doesn't appear 8. Clock on the radio button/blank circle immediately to the left of the word "Merge" in the upper right of the page above the map 9. A red pushpin should appear very close to your green pushpin. If the two pushpins seem to be on top of each other keep puching the "+" at the top end of the vertical ruler line on the left side of the map. Each tap of the plus will blow up the map and put more space between your green personal pushpin and the existing red hotspot pushpin. 10. Click on the red pushpin. The following should appear just above the map Merge 1 checklists with Williamson Co.--CR428 & CR361 Delete after merging Step 10 doesn't seem to work on older versions of Interenet Explorer (IE 8)--but hopefully works on your browser. email me if it doesn't work--and we will try something else--no harm wikll have been done if you stop at step 10. 11. As soon as both pushpins appear separate from each other, Click on the Merge button/rectangle 12. Click Yes on "Are You Sure? This can not be Undone" You are done Your observation list will have the same birds time, effort but will now be attached to the hotspot. Your personal location will have been merged into the hotspot. If you have more than one list from the personal location, they will all be transfered to the Williamson Co.--CR428 & CR361 hotspot. Thanks for making the historical record much cleaner! Even if this is a potentially ABA non-countable bird it has attracted 120 observers thus far **************************************************************************************************************** ALTERNATIVE If the above doesn't work--due to shared personal locations or other issues--here is a quick alternative-- thanks Beth McBroom Thanks for creating a hotspot. Your instructions did not work for me. The "merge" option does not appear. It was easy to change my location to the hotspot by 1. Open "Manage My Checklists" 1. click View or edit next to the checklist with the sparrow 2. click edit location 3. click "Nearby Location of a Map" 4. click the red pushpin 5. click "continue" This second method is quicker but the alternative personal location will remain with zero lists and one can't move more than one list at a time John B ****************************************************************************************************************** [texbirds] Williamson Co. "Striped Sparrow" location on eBird From: Chuck Sexton <gcwarbler@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: TexBirds Posting Posting <texbirds@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Mon, 2 Feb 2015 10:08:34 -0600 TexBirders, I’d like to make a request of folks who have or are planning on doing some birding at the Striped Sparrow location in Williamson County (“Williamson Co.—CR428 & CR361”, recently added by John Berner). Some folks who also birded at nearby Granger Lake have included long lists of waterbirds seen at the latter location in their checklist for the riparian woodland spot where the sparrow has hung out. That offers a terribly confusing picture of what birds are in which location or are associated with what types of habitat. If you have the time and have entered an eBird checklist for the Striped Sparrow and included sightings from more than, say, a mile away in substantially different habitats, please consider splitting your checklst accordingly. There are already over a dozen eBird HotSpots, including one general one for “Granger Lake Area (HOTE 031)”, in the vicinity. Zoom in on this map to see them: http://ebird.org/ebird/tx/hotspots or you may create your own personal location for a different area if needed. This will help future researchers using eBird data to understand distribution, occurrence, and habitat preferences better for birds in this diverse area. Thanks!
